Hi guys! My M1 from the CMP has a "P" in the curve of the pistol grip and on the bottom where a pistol grip cap would be on some sporters. What does this denote?
Also, there are no import marks that I can find, and the barrel is dated HRA 8-54 and the receiver and bolt are also HRA.
The "P" denotes that the rifle was "Proofed" by firing a special high pressure round. Anything stamped on the left side of stock below the elevation knob?

No sir no other markings on the stock.
HRA stocks are unique that the "proof" P looks like the one I just typed, without the "serrifs" which are little "tits" that embellish the P.
