From the Civilian Marksmanship Program manual for the M1 Rifle:
"The correct ammunition for the M1 rifle is the U.S. Caliber .30 Rifle cartridge. Its military loadings include M2 Ball, M2 Armor Piercing and M72 Match......Remember that the M1 rifle was designed solely for U.S. military standard ammunition. Other ammunition may or may not function reliably......."
Almost all commercial 30=06 ammunition uses heavier loads of slower burning powder than the M1 weapon was designed for, especially if heavier bullets are used. While the ammunition you mention may, or may not eventually damage your rifle I think an adjustable gas plug would be the best insurance you can buy if you aren't using U.S.G.I. or U.S.G.I. spec ammunition. That's just my take.

Thanks Art, I think I will stick with military ball ammo. Keith
The only thing I run through mine are 150 to 174 grain bullets loaded with 4895.
IMR 4064 is good to go for all orig velocity/pressure M1 Garand loadings

Read and enjoy-this shows some representative powder curves. With the right plug you can shoot anything.

PD
Literally millions of rounds of both factory and reloaded ammo has been fired out of M1 Rifles with no fuss long before there was such a thing as a venting type of gas screw.
