You'll have to work up the load for each rifle you have. Think 168 grain match bullets with IMR4064 for distances out to 600 and 175's past there for either .30-06 or .308. IMR4964 gives more consistent accuracy than either 4895. Varget has a following too. Only ever used IMR4064 myself.
The AR will depend on what rifling twist it has.
You do not need CCI "milspec" primers. Those are nothing more than magnum primers. And slam fires are caused by improperly loaded ammo, not the rifle.

ALL DISCLAIMERS apply... REDUCE YOUR LOAD 10% and work up from there!!
YOur rifle, throat, chamber are different then mine.!!
For .223:
LC Brass, Small Rifle Standard Winchester Primers (NOT magnums)
77 grain sierra match king for 200, 300 yard lines, 80 grain sierra match king for 600 yard line.
Varget, 24.5 Grains. (a friend of mine who has his distinguished shooter badge was using 25.3 grains of varget with the same bullets, cases... but REMEMBER his throat, chamber is different then ours!).
One of these rifles is 1 in 7.75 Krieger barrel, other is 1 in 8 twist DPMS match barrel.
for 308:
this is for a BOLT gun with 1 in 10 twist barrel, match rifle
I was using R/P NICKEL brass (I could find it in the grass easier!)
175 grain sierra match king bullets
44.5 grains of varget for 800 and 900 yard lines (and less), 45.0 grains of varget for 1000 yard line (Palma match).
Standard Large Rifle Winchester brand primers.
For my m1a, using LC brass, 45.0 grains of varget with a 150 Boat tail spire point hornady or a surplus 147 FMJ with the standard large rifle winchester primers is good for 2760 FPS in both my m1a and my FAL and it shoots very accurately.

I LOVE varget but can't find it any where now. I changed all of my rifles (.223, 243, and 7.62 NATO/.308) to Varget.
