Here are some photos of the RB 03 after I've worked on it some. I've moved the front sight sleeve up to the correct distance from the muzzle and have cleaned the stock and handguard by wiping it down with something I have.
More to come later. Hope you find it interesting!

Mike, I haven't received your message yet.

Nice. If only it could talk. It's long outlived the soldier who once fought with it.

Are you going to shoot it?

Fred

I wasn't planning on it. I haven't been shooting any of my other 03's. I've never shot any of them. Only this rifle and one other are the early case hardened types (single heat treat). I bought a butt load of surplus ammo years ago anticipating the supply drying up one day, but have never used any of it up. I guess that I've lost interest in shooting. Anyway, I figure why push my luck with an early receiver at this stage of my life?
I can still remember the blood all over the ground 40 years ago where a guy at a local range had installed the bolt incorrectly on his Ross rifle and squeezed off the first round. I guess that the bolt came back out of the receiver and tore its way through the guys face and into his skull. That had to hurt. It made an impression on my mind.

Sounds like that made an impression on his mind too.

I notice the butt plate looks like it has the large door on it, weren't those the small ones?

Yep. I'm replacing it Sunday with a correct type. A buddy of mine found a RB stacking swivel in his stuff and so I'll be getting that too along with a safety and a front guard screw and a split bushing for the back guard screw.

Watch the movie 'Sergeant York,' and sometimes it shows an 03 with a rear sight like that one. But as I recall, the front end of the rifle was looking like the regular configuration.

Dandy rifle!

really nice, love the satin finish. Glossy finish on military weapons is so unnatural looking.
