In Sept, 2013 I asked for help with reduced loads that would function in a Garand and be accurate in a 1903A3. I was scheduled for shoulder surgery on both shoulders due to rotator cuff injuries and had sugery done in Sept. 2013 and January 2014.
Joem, P246,Parashooter, Maury Krupp, JohnF, Griff Murphey, emmagee1917, Dollar Bill and Matt Anthony all replied with really useful loads , suggestions and advice. I listened to you all and took time off from match shooting while concentrating on the Garand and Springfield matches at Camp Perry on the 19th and 20th of this month. I settled on 46 gr. Varget and a 125 gr. Speer TNT for the M1 Garand and 25 gr. IMR4759 and a Nosler 168 gr. CC bullet for the 03A3 as the 125's would not feed reliably. recoil was light and manageable for me.
I shot a 95 /3X slow fire prone, 91 /1 X rapid fire prone and a 75 offhand ( still a bit weak holding the rifle ) and just missed a medal. However, with the 03A3 I shot great scores ( 95 /2X, 95 /1X, 83 /1X) and ended up with a silver medal. I was really happy with the results and wanted express my appreciation for your help and suggestions. Now I'm looking forward to next year!
