Hey Guys,

Now that the auction is over and this discussion won't influence anything either way.........

http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=431591029

IS there something "special" about this pistol ?? Is there a SRS "hit" on it ?? Did it belong to Patton ??

I'm at a loss to know why it brought the closing bid, money wise. Personally, I didn't think it would bring the opening bid. Maybe my customer ( consignment sale ) got lucky and 2 guys just wanted it and had a "bidding war".

Have a nice weekend.... Thanks ,

Emri

I'm sure your customer is pleased and will be back with every gun in his house for you to sell now. The ACE is a hot item but I've never seen one sell for this much.

I have seen them sell for more than that, but not in that condition. Magazine is incorrect to boot. Just no way to know why two people bid it up that high, but you can't keep them from it.

It is a Service Model mag, but a little early (floor plate roll stamp) for a 1941 S M pistol?

It is not a Service Model Ace magazine, and is incorrect.

Here is an example of a Colt Ace magazine, and a Colt Service Model Ace magazine.

Well, yes and no. Yes, it is technically incorrect for a 1941 Service Model Pistol (way too early---but, will work). No, it is not a ACE magazine---it is an early Service Model Mag.

The mag pictured in the GB auction is a early Service Model Ace Magazine (note the side view pictures) that shipped with 1935, 1936, most (if not all) of 1937, and possibly a few of 1938, Service Model Ace Pistols. Colt used the ACE floor plate on the early Service Model ACE magazines. Do not know when Colt transitioned from the above top pictured roll stamp to the bottom pictured roll stamp, but think it was around the time they transitioned the "Service Model" roll stamp on the slide.

(BTW, Colt Pre-war Service Model ACE magazines will not auto feed in a Colt ACE.)
