Could someone please tell me if a 1903 Springfield rear band spring is identical to a Krag carbine band spring? Thanks.

I believe they are the same. Without removing the spring on my 1896 Carbine, they are the exact size on the outside.

PM sent.

Well, I needed a Band Spring for my Remington M1903. Scrounged around in my parts box and found an original Band Spring for a U.S. Model 1861 Rifle-Musket and it fit perfectly in my '03.

That might be because the model 1855 band spring was something that was continued through following models like the 1855 Springfield trigger guard screws. They later became the small butt plate screw on a 1903 Springfield. I think that that particular screw might've even started out as a TG screw on the model 1816 US musket.

1816 screw, like the 1842 and 1840 is larger.

I stand corrected. Model 1855 then, thanks! Wasn't that same screw used on the M1 too?

Amazing! Imagine not changing something - just because there was no need to! People used to be practical...... :) CC

I also have substituted the 03 and A3 lower bands with the M1917 band, and switching out the sling loops.

Well, while I am certain that they won't interchange, the Band Spring on the M-1 Carbine is the same design as the Band Springs that held the upper barrel band on the U.S. Model 1795 Musket, the M1816's, the M1841 Mississippi Rifles and the M1842 Muskets!

Not sure what screw you are talking about on the M1 (garand) but if is the butt screw that was changed. They made the slot wider in 1941. It is in Gas Trap book... just another data point to check to see if your earlier garand has not been tinkered with...
