Carbine Sight

A local gun shop bought a box of odds and ends of parts, and this was among a few M1 Carbine parts. They didn't even know the sight was in them until they sorted the parts out, and didn't pay any kind of premium for the parts. All the other parts were original, but this sight just didn't look quite right. What are the opinions on the sight?

Looks like a repro to me. Multiple issues.

It didn't look right to me either, but the strange thing is that the parts came from a backyard gunsmith that had been in business for over 40 years in a nearby town. He had died about 10 years back and after his wife passed away the family was getting ready to sell the property. The grandson brought a box of parts into the local gun shop to sell, and the sight was in them.

It would be helpful if "Mike in NC" and "Tuna" would list the "multiple issues" pointing to their assessment that the sight is a reproduction.

They have been making repo sights since the 70's and no we will not talk about what is wrong with the sight as if we do the humpers then know and they read these forums too. It just keeps getting worse with the humpers as they have more and more parts reproduced,
marked as real and sold as real. That is where they get their money from as a repo sight retails for $20 but if marked and sold as real it's hundreds of dollars. The best advise is to get pictures of real type 1 rear sights and compare them to any other type one and try to see the differences between them or post a photo here and someone will try to help you. I will tell you that all three photos show problems that would set off alarms to collectors.
