value of new 1903

I just purchased my first 1903 on gunbroker.com . Item # 436870073. Final bid was $1025. My rifles will be passed on to my grandsons and I need as close to accurate valuation in order for them to know what they have inherited (hopefully not for some time yet). I know that a rifle in a sense is worth whatever one is willing to pay for it and as such I am happy with my purchase price but would still like to know it's true value. If it's only worth half of what I paid, that's OK, just want to know. An accurate description would be a great help as well. Thanks in advance for your help. Rick B.

I would say that it is worth the bid placed just before your winning bid. There were at least 2 people still interested in the rifle at that price & established the market value.

I believe the bayonet is worth at least $200. The grooved grips are what collectors like to see.

Your rifle and bayonet are worth every penny of what you paid for it, and then some. Your rifle was once issued to the U.S. Marine Corps, and those rifles command a small premium over rifles issued to other branches of service.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I had roughly guessed that the bayonet, oiling kit, sling, and mills belt were worth at least $200 and the rifle at least $600. I thought that I would come at least close to the actual value of the rifle. I am familiar with SRS in relation to the trapdoor rifles and am wondering if they did research on the 1903 Springfield as well. If so does anyone have access to their research and could possibly look up the serial # of my rifle for me. That serial # is 830085. Once again, many thanks. Rick B

Rick, thanks for looking. I guess it's like with the trapdoors, that only a very few can be documented. I'm wondering then how one would know that it had been delivered at one time to the marines.
