Post WWII USMC Carbine Rebuilds

Just wondering whether there were any characteristics that might ID a post WWII USMC carbine rebuild like one can see on the 1903's and some M1 Garands? I can't imagine that the Marine Corps sent their carbines to the Army for re-work.

Sorry but the answer is no. There is no markings to say any carbine was rebuilt by the USMC. In fact carbines were rebuilt for all branches of the service at the post war centers of Standard Products and Underwood in the later 40's. Many rebuilt at SA and RIA but most were done at the regional arsenals like Anniston, Ogden, Augusta, MR, San Antonio etc. during the 50's. But be aware that there are fake stampings on carbines that say USMC. These are all fakes so be careful if you should find one of these and don't get taken.

I've seen those fake stamps too. So, a regular rebuild stamp would not rule out a carbine from USMC service (e.g. USMC carbine inventory went to the arsenals too)?

Since few records exist that tell what service received what firearms, any carbine could have been a USMC carbine, That being said, it could also have been a navy carbine or Army Air Corp. But in any case, the odds favor the Army because it simply had more of them.

This SA stamped M1A1 grip - was it used in postwar rebuilds and did SA manufacture it ?

Yes it was made by Springfield Armory and it was used in rebuilds of M1A1 carbines post war.
