Scope is 8.75 " long, 7/8" dia, eye end slightly larger 1". Two rings attached to scope, one a post about 1" long with groove around and a half moon cut on one side. Front is a square 3/8" long with a lip at front. Redicue is a small circle, dot in center, with short lines out at bottom and sides.
Marked; TELESCOPE, M6 NO. 6640 M.H.R.CO. 1941---D.A. Around scope from that, is number stamp C56929 (serial #?) Has no adjustments.
What is it? Must be military!

Yep, wife's antique club had a military collector, ex-ranger and para trooper, lecture at their meeting to-day. Said it was for a M37 light cannon, towed behind jeeps, used for close support against vehicles, trucks, lite armored, etc. Sighting scope is what he called it.
Thanks for the picture. Any collector interest in these? Any value?
When I was the Guard Chief at NWS Seal Beach, Ca. We had a 37 MM in front of the barracks. When we closed the barracks in '88 the gun had no home for it. The 1stSgt and I were trying to figure out where we could stash it (yea, we thought about dragging it home). Ended up giving it to a USMC Reserve Arty unit at Pico Rivera in L.A. Wish I could have kept it, it would look neat in the front yard.
