My cousin just got this stock..what's the "M"?

That "M" is just the line code for the rebuild line the original rifle went through at Springfield Armory in Springfield ,Mass.!!

Just an arsenal rebuild code from Springfield. They used multiple letters A,F,O thatI've seen personally as well as M. I'm sure they're are more. Don't think anything specific.

Well , it was specific at the time . Wheather it was a line as oldtirediron said , a particular inspector , or a shift team , it meant something .

It was on an M1d from cmp back in 1999 is all I know. ..

That's what I refereed to. I meant specific like A for barrel change, d for refinish, m sniper conversion.

No , it would not apply to type of work done . It would indicate some level of who-done-it so a problem could be traced back.
