An old pal of mine, USMC scout part of the scout sniper team in the gulf war bought an HBAR A2 Colt some years ago. We've drifted apart over the last few years but then I saw this on his Facebook page. I'm not sure where to begin counselling him.

might as well clean out the gene pool, tell him to stuff a little more in there!
Well, looks like you'll drift even further apart.
I'm not familiar with that powder but at 28 gr I'm surprised there's room for the bullet.

Now he's mad I because I told him that was a dumb and dangerous way to load. He's using military brass on top of it all. I think max in the book is 27.something.

Wasn't that the reloading procedure for the Marine team 600 - 100yd loads, in 7.62mm and soft seat the bullet? Don't pick -up that brass for reloading.
"...think max in the book is 27..." 25.8 for a 69 grain bullet. 27.8 for a 55. 29 for a 40.
Your buddy is nuts(so are the other 8) if he thinks he can tell what powder any factory uses. He can't get it anyway.

Hodgdon shows 28.5 gr's of CFE using a 53 gr. bullet. right on the bottle! For other bullet weight loads, here is the link to Hodgdon's reloading site.

Before anyone posts, I believe the words, "I think or maybe" should not be used as there are people that do not understand how those words are used and for what purpose. Also, it makes me wonder sometimes how people succeed in life when they can't understand the purpose of data and how it is the only source for safe reloading practices!
