View Full Version : Military Remngton 870 buttstock sling swivel...
Guys,
What is the "correct" sling swivel for an early military Remington 870 buttstock?
Thanks,

Not sure what you mean by early, but the 870s usually have the type that screws into the bottom of the buttstock with a single integral screw. Some of the riot guns don't have swivels.
If you are referring to the type of swivel used on the USMC 870 Mk.1 or USN/USAF M870, as well as some police riot 870's ordered with sling swivels from the factory (circa 1960's-1970's), it is the same rear swivel as supplied on the Remington 513T/521T .22 target rifle, some Remington 40X target rifles, and USMC M40 sniper rifle (Remington M700).
I have a couple of sets of wood that came off a mid 1970's factory M870 riot guns - they both came equipped with this type of rear swivel.
On one 513T stock I had a number of years ago, the rear swivel screw stud was considerably longer than the usual ones you come across - 1-1/8" long vs. the 3/4" length usually found (as seen in attached photo).
You will also see them referred to as "Witchita" swivels, after the company (Witchia Arms) that currently makes them for use normally on USMC M40/M40A1/A3/A5 sniper rifle builds.

Internal Diameter (ID) of the sling loop is 1-1/2" - not 1-1/4". However, there has been forum discussions as to whether both ID's were made. I've only ever seen 1-1/2" ID swivels on original guns.
Below are some photos of what the swivel looks like.
I trust this helps out.
Cheers!

Guys,
Thanks very much for the info. That's exactly what I was looking for.

They show up from time-to-time on eBay - search for "Vintage Sling Swivel".
