Gentleman,

I may be crazy for thinking this but is this slide on this pistol legit? It just looks completely bogus. The script as well as the placement on the slide. The characters look like they are running into each other.

If it is a fake who would have done this one as this isn't a high dollar item and condition is poor overall?
Looks pretty funky to me.

If you have an interest in this pistol, I would pass.

For less than $500.00 I guess it might be worth a chance for a shooter.

Both the slide and receiver have been refinished. I think the slide is real, but the left side was overly buffed, maybe to remove pitting etc and then the lettering was engraved. It's just a shooter grade parts gun IMO.

I just noticed the eagle's head inspection stamp on the frame as well as the large "P" on the barrel lug look like they were double struck. He makes note of the barrel being a possible Singer barrel. This is one of the worst put together hack job guns I have seen in a while.

Wonder if it comes with a Clawson letter? Or a Colt archive letter. I'm sure it was General Patton's issued sidearm.....

Wonder who he is.........wonder if he has a shop or what. Since I live in Sebastian, Florida finding this guy should not be hard. Maybe I will see it at one of the local gun shows.

I think it is a legit "Black Army" piece that someone buffed on way too hard and then someone tried to enhance the lettering on the slide which made the thing look pretty hideous. The barrel has been messed with too. Better left where it is......

Do you think the slide was legit at one time? I almost thought it was one of the newer slides made by Colt for the reproduction WW1 models and then monkeyed with?!? Some of the letters on that slide look like they were hand stamped on with a single character stamp and hammer. Some are crooked and some are not even on a straight base line.

I hope the bidders on this one realize what they are looking at....

This just confuses the thread.

Scott, please don't be so serious. I was only making light of some of the miss-identified or misleading auction items. I think we all have to laugh at such situations sometimes.
