My rear sight on my 43 maltby No4 is marked N67. Is this a replacement?

N67 is the wartime manufacterers code for Singer. Singer MkI sights are the original spec'd equipment for the No4 rifle. Midwar sight production couldn't keep up with rifle production, so the MkII (300-600 flip) was used as a shortcut to speed up getting rifles where needed.

In 1943 Maltby was using MkII sights. That doesn't mean a batch might not have been made available though. Postwar, the rifles remaining in British service having MkII sights were to be retro-fitted with the MkI.

There is no way to know when or how your rifle was fitted with the Singer sight. If anyone tells you it's wrong just flip 'em off. Whether original to the day it left the factory, retrofitted in service, or upgraded by an owner after being surplused (many indeed were) it doesn't matter. It's "correct".

Use it and enjoy it :)
