Greetings. I recently picked up a Remington 1903 at a gun show. Inspection shows it to be a mix-master of parts. The SN is 3357*** which according to the info that I can find puts it at a Dec '42 manufacturing date. However, the barrel is dated Feb '43. I know that this was during the period when Remington was moving from 03 production to 03A3 production. My question is would a Feb '43 barrel have been installed on a Dec '42 receiver, or is this mostly likely a rebuild?

That's most likely an A3 barrel not a M1903-I think someone homespun your M1903.

Remington M1903s were being made until early March, but by this time they were (to use John Beard's term) "floor sweepings". I would have to agree with Pete.

Would an A3 barrel typically allow for mounting of M1903 front and rear sights?

Some barrel modification is required to mount M1903 sights on an M'03-A3 barrel. The extent of modification depends on the style of M'03-A3 barrel. With the present scarcity of good original M1903 barrels, the modifications occur very regularly.

Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
