I finally got to try out that miserable 1/8 twist barrel today. I did cut a new crown and noticed that when the tool contacted the barrel it seemed to catch on the right side of the barrel. The new crown is now a 45 degree cut. I was shooting 75 gr Black Hills Match ammo. Results are fantastic. Groups now are under 1" @ 100 yds if I do my part from a rest. I guess I will not destroy that barrel. HAPPY HAPPY :banana100::eusa_dance:

It's been a long struggle, over one year of cuss'in, trial and error. Many, many bullets, powder and primers.

yes, but it was worth the drill.
I've shot out barrels on prairie dog rifles (.243 bolt rifle) and had the barrel cut back and re-chambered only to have it shoot a WORSE group.
So now I'm into it 130 dollars worth and if I want to rebarrel it, I'm looking at another 3 to 400 bucks.
So.... I just bought a NEW savage rifle in .243 for $540. Everything is new, sold the other one with shot out barrel to a guy who wants to rebarrel it in .308 so I got $250 for that.
As you can see, your playing around saved you a couple of hundred bucks or more.
BTW... this was a 2003 timeframe and prices I'm telling you about.
