I have a Springfield Sporter that I have two questions on.
1. Should the lands the bolt rides on be polished.
2. What is the correct rear sight for a 1924 manufactured sporter
Thanks in advance Skinny 58

I do not have a Sporter but I believe that the correct rear sight would be a Lyman 48S

Cosine is correct. The Lyman 48S has the small hinged peep in front of the threaded aperture hole and the windage scale is on the back of the slide. Don't be confused by the later 48S sights that have a shorter slide and shorter base. The correct 48S will have the the elevation scale numbered to 125. This was the standard length Lyman 48. What was referred to as the long slide was numbered to 150. Newcomers to the Lyman 48 sight world have decided to refer to the slide numbered to 125 as a "long slide".
