Excellent device, solves timing problems. It is a drop in replacement op-rod catch. Clip stays in the rifle after last shot. You can load an empty clip into the rifle and top load rounds as you wish.

A google search will show how to make one.

M1 thumb is an empty rifle handling issue so the Holbrook device has no effect on that. Otherwise, it does what it is supposed to do.

would work great with a Brass catcher.

Never had a M1 Thumb but a Hakim Finger is real bad! $%^&**##
I have one in one of my M1's and I'm going to remove it. Nothing like the ejection ping!!! Just have to keep my thumb out of the way, as I do with all the others. (But I have had two M1 thumbs and an M1 finger.)

don't you just remove the accelerator from the op rod latch?

There is a bit more to it than that.
M1 thumb is an operator failure issue. So is Hakim Finger. Load either correctly and you'll have no issues with 'em.
Holbrook devices and anything like it is nothing but a way of separating you from your money.

Interesting comment.. I have sold over 7,000 of my Devices and older folks with weak hands, Arthritis and women etc love it. I have sold many to people who have only one arm. Have you tried to load a Garand with one hand??? Most of the catches were made by converting GI Op Rod Catches, however I used up most of the surplus so I now make them from scratch and they work well....
They are very easy to make, just cut the mag release arm off, then drill a hole in the catch and insert a spring... I use a #22 drill bit for the hole.
Here is a photo of a converted GI op rod catch for reference. Anyone who needs assistance, please contact me.

John, I've lost the small coil spring from my Holbrook device. Where can I get a replacement and what size do I ask for. It must be a common size and possibly my local hardware store has one in stock.

Just a suggestion, most hardware stores have a "spring cabinet" with a large assortment of those items. Just take your op rod catch with you and see which one fits. (you may have to trim the replacement to length)

If you cannot find one locally, let me know and I will mail you one.. Any spring that will fit the hole will work..

BTW, For those of you that own one of my Devices, you can load "short round' clips! 6 or 7 or full 8 round clips will work just fine!!!!

Funny, I was issued a M1 and NEVER got my thumb caught in it.
I was in an "awkward" area and found a Mini 14 that was supposed to be unloaded and had a full 5 round magazine......after I had worked the bolt BEFORE dropping the magazine.
In my haste, dropping the magazine, then pulling the bolt back to unchamber the round I.....uh, well...OK...third finger divot.
[and here I had been trying improve my language by not cussing!]
[Note, I have been cautious about my Ljungmans and MAS 56/49's.]

:63:Any divice that makes shooting easy to some is worth the price. I wish John could come up with a M-1 Carbine last round hold open device. I hate that last round empty chamber CLICK on my 44 Island. An buying mags that have a lil ole bump on the end does not qualify as the bolt will slam home as the empty mag is removed. An John does make a good hold open device, par none.
What type of brass catcher are you referring to?

I bought two of them from John about ten years ago at a gun show. They take all of the timing issues out of your gun. No more clips flying out after 5-7 rounds or any worries of wacking your thumb. Sometimes the problem is NOT operator error and this is a great solution for not a lot of money.
They also make it impossible for the Germans to attack when they hear the ping from your clip flying out. :eusa_shhh:
thanks for the grins lonegunman............
