Got this in trade and before I sell it, I'd like a positive ID/time frame, please.

Clawson says its a Transition era barrel, and the outside finish looks USGI and unfooled with and is in great shape, but the shiny hood has me scratching my head...Any help here would be appreciated.

When Colt resumed production of the Government Model in 1946 most of the parts used were left over from the military contract. That one has the polished chamber like the barrels used in the GM, but it could just as well have been polished by someone wanting to dress up their military pistol. Some 30 years ago I remember a dealer that dealt mostly in grips and stocks had a box of the COLT .45 AUTO barrels that were unused, but someone had polished the chamber of every one of them in an attempt to sell them as commercial rather than military.

The F in front of the lug indicates the barrel was used in the 1944/45 time period on the military Colts.

From your photo I can't tell for sure, but the polish doesn't look like Colt factory.
