I am just a bundle of questions lately. I am looking for an Underwood oiler, and I contacted someone last night to see if he had them. He said the marked oilers only came with the early guns till around the 1 million mark. My gun is 2 million and change.
Is he correct or just sying this because he doesnt have any?
THank you as always.
Bill

Think of it this way. The earliest possible Underwood serial number is 1,350,000. If marked oilers were only on early carbine "till around the 1 million mark", why are there IU marked oilers?

Bottom line is whoever you contacted is clueless.

Oilers were coded for the carbine manufacturer till about mid 1943. After that they all became marked IS for International Silver who made oiler for all of them. Winchester did use some SW and BW marked on the cap instead of the base oiler. But for your carbine one marked IS is what you need.

Thank you, That could be why I picked up an IS oiler about 15 years ago. When I was looking for one you had your pick of oilers (originals). That expains it
Thank you, Bill
