Chuck is very interesting to talk to. We have had him in town to conduct several sniper seminars and Powerpoint presentations over the past several years. Generally connect with him when we attend the SHOT Show. Chuck also sends out some really neat Sniper related Christmas Cards.

I bought my Chandler M40A1 #24, back in 1994 for $2350, now it would cost about $6,000 for the same rifle from Chandler. He personalized the floor plate Richard Turner, GySgt USMC Ret. in gold lettering.

Got the rifle and it is a very easy way to get into the M40 game.

These are the over run rifles I believe so there are some minor issues. Mine came with a scratch on the left side that Tung oil has been working to cover nicely and Remington did not install the receiver plug screws at the rear sight drill/taps. GA Precision bedded these rifles and the bedding job is beautiful, every bit as noce as an M40A1 I have that was done at Quantico. Unfortunately without the side plugs in the bedding will have to be relieved just a skosh to allow for the plug heads. Ill just kiss it with a dremel and it should be good to go.

Found a nice early Redfield for it on Ebay...

No tombstone and it is glossy rather than urine green but it will have the basic outline needed. Had Badger send me their repro Redfield 4 screw rings with the rifle.

Really glad to have a rifle associated with Mr. MaWhinney, expecting it will be a shooter.

I have a SSA M40 from Remington with the 3-9X Redfield from the Leupold Custom Shop. Mine holds a 1" group at 200 yards. Hopefully these will do the same for you.

What do you tourqe your action screws to on these wood Remingtons. It was mentioned to me 60-65 inch ponds but that seems a lot for wood. Im thinking more like the 1903 40-45 inch pounds.

The MaWhinney rifle does have bedded pillars so that could account for the higher tourqe.

Never checked the torque. Just took it out of the box, punched the bore and shot it.

Thank you. Hoping to get it together this weekend and shoot soon. Shooting an M40A1 today looking forward to comparing results. The A1 is a beast to the relatively svelt 40.

No, that is the top of the rest sticking up on the far side. The scope is the Redfield Commemorative 3-9X made by Leupold for the SSA M40's.
