View Full Version : Loading question for 30-40 Krag and H4895 powder
I have a supply of H4895 powder and a few hundred 165 gr. BTSP .308 bullets but I can't find a loading for this combo. on Hodgdon's site or in either of my two reloading books, anyone have a sugestion where I should look or a loading I could use for my Krag sporter?
Thanks
33grs H4895 should be a safe starting load. With the 165gr Hornady this is just shy of 2000fps. The Hornady manual lists 36.9grs as max with their bullet and this powder in Norma cases and Fed 210 primers. From the 8th edition of the Hornady Handbook.

Hodgdon online .30/40 data lists 150 and 180 grain bullets with H4895. Split the difference and we get 40 grains as a reasonable maximum for 165's -
Case: Winchester

Primer: CCI 200, Large Rifle
Barrel Length: 24"
Trim Length: 2.304"
Bullet Weight 150 GR. NOS PART

Mfg Powder Bullet Diam. C.O.L. Grs. Vel.//Grs. Vel. (ft/s)
Hodgdon H4895 .308" 3.090" 38.5 2,410//42.0 2,575
Bullet Weight 180 GR. SPR GS SP
