The rifle is listed in the "classified ads" section of the New Zealand published "E-Gazette" in the back.

I am wondering if it was left in New Zealand in the 1940's by Marines that were rotated into New Zealand for R & R or training before, during or after the Guadalcanal Campaign.

You can easily pull up the website up-just drop an e-mail to Phil. From what I remember, the rifle is described as a World War I U.S.M.C. Sniper rifle with a Winchester A-5 scope.
