Never seen one like it. Not sure what the readings mean.

What is the smallest reading (hidden in the bore)?

I continue to wonder why muzzle/throat gages are so expensive when they are a simple machined gage?

Don't know about the M1 Rifle barrels, but the manufacturing tolerance of the 1903 Rifle bore was .2995 to .3015.

I see now that it's laying out.

Just use a M2 bullet, insert nose into muzzle, and if:
1/4" shows from muzzle crown to cannalure on bullet, minor wear,
3/16 or less, got about .004" wear,
less than 1/8" about .010"
if it swallows the cannalure [or the bullet], replace barrel.
