View Full Version : Never know where a Garand might turn up...
My wife and I visited Athens last year and visited the old Royal Palace.
Ceremonial Guards were armed!

What are those black 'puff balls' on the toes? A dusting aid? 8-)

I don't know, but I doubt anyone gives these guys any crap about them...at least not to their faces. Those guys were giants...6'6'' or taller. I stand 6' and they made me look puny

When you need an impressive drill rifle there us no other choice.
Nice shot of Greek guard. Pretty darn good.
Nice Garand.

As I said, I doubt that many people give them any crap about the coat (really isn't a skirt). These guys were BIG.
I stand 6' and here I am standing next to the guy...

I was a little reluctant to show too much interest in his rifle.
But I was kicking myself later. I noticed our tour guide speaking to two very tall young men. They seemed quite chummy and I found out later she was friends with them and they were off-duty ceremonial guards. I would have loved to talk to them about the Garands.
I would guess those guards have never fired a garand

You could be right. They might have enjoyed talking to someone who has.
