View Full Version : Tyrol 5022 British marked
I just bought this for a shooter when I noticed the British proof marks on the barrel.End of barrel is threaded. 3106631067310683106931070 Was this used as a military trainer ??
No, silencers were used by civilians in indoor ranges in England. It was considered 'bad form' to not use one. Any gun sold in England would be required to go thru English proof. Brit military is not subject to proof law.
I have one of those rifles, missing mag. (I made a single shot adaptor for it). Have never seen another and cannot track down who imported them. I figured a GI brought it home. Mine has no English proofs, barrel dated 64. Has a round bolt knob and courser checkering. Rear barrel sight and hooded ramp front. I have an English gun companies brochure which shows several other Tyrol models but not this one. Serial is 91477. Is yours later or earlier?
What do you know about these rifles??
I don't know much about this brand other than its well made and accurate. My serial number is 25446 I'm not sure of the date, there is a 54 stamp on right hand side on the receiver.
Yes, 1954. Much earlier then mine. I love the butter knife bolt handle on ours, that's real European style. I do not know how to post pics, or I would. I think these must be quite scarce in the US and collectable. I have not shot mine much, have a scope on it also.
Finally got a mag after 14 years! Just luck after I mentioned I needed one on another site. Guy 'thought' his gun smith may have one. Went back measured, took pics, and it looked right, so I took a chance, works great!
Would you mind telling what you paid? I paid 175 in 2001.
I'd never heard of the company... much less seen one of their firearms....... Hope it's accurate enough to hunt with........Congrats on getting a fine looking firearm.
It is named after the Tyrol mountains in Austria or maybe a town by that name also. Was sold to another well known company I don't recall right now. Went bankrupt. Stoeger also imported some Tyrol rifles but have not seen this one in the catalogs I do have.
