I remember Kip had a skeletonised experimental lightweight 03 where basically the entire buttstock area was hollowed out. Does anyone still have a picture of it?

See if you can find a pic of one at the Springfield Armory web site. I don't remember how to do it there. I remember when I visited there for the "100 Years of the '03" exhibit, most all the '03's they had were experimental one of a kind type rifles.

On the CMP forums there was a thread about some CSP files that were long ago "lost" on the internet and the poster found them. I don't remember how far back they may have gone. The iteration of CSP you refer to was a LONG time ago!! Very few of us here now that were here then.

I have photos of the rifle disassembled and of me holding it.

Is this a Mauser style cleaning rod below the barrel?

Don't know Georg. Literally tripped over the pic while researching something else. I don't recall the original source. But SA collection would be a good place to start.

Maybe so since the butt trap cleaning compartment is eliminated.

I wonder how much weight was taken off by eliminating the bit of wood.
