It followed me home, Honest, Born in 1913 with a Oct 1913 barrel (fixed it), single bolt stock, faint J.F.C cartouche, it appears to be a NRA sales rifle as it has a Ordnance flaming bomb over NRA just forward of the magazine floor plate. The bore is dirty and a good cleaning is in order. could someone do a SRS check ? 570454

That is what I get for typing without looking at the photos. I just picked it up and was still taking photos.

.. and it makes it 102 years old :eusa_shhh:

Very nice rifle, hope the scratch on the magazine floorplate wasn't because of the rocks where you placed it for taking pictures!

Nothing like the feel of a nice piece of wood and steel. Classic lines. In my humble opinion the only finer rifle is the M1917

Original pre-WWI M1903s are classic! In my opinion, the best-looking battle rifles ever!!

Find anything in the buttstock?

I did not put the scratches on the plate, it looked like there was something written on it, but it is un readable now, I will try to find a replacement that looks aged to match.

Nothing in the buttstock,

The bore was so dark it was like looking into a black hole, I plugged the barrel and filled it with Hoppes and let it set overnight, this morning I ran a brush and patches thru it and was rewarded with a bright shinny bore

Congratulations!

My identical (and only service M1903) 570865 is 11-13, just for date confirmation.

Anything in the SRS records ?

I rarely, if ever see a "hit" on an NRA Sales rifle before WWI.

Thanks Rick,
I guess I should be happy with one 1903 with a SRS record
Any idea where I can go to try and find a sales record ? NRA ? CMP ?

No idea -- later post-WWI NM and Sales rifles are usually listed but not those before, that I am aware.

31604In this case it was a auction, I thought I had bid too high after looking at the photos for a 2nd time, it looked like a rust case, but it turns out it was the normal finish, there was no rust, but the bore was a dark sewer pipe, but a nights soaking and a brushing brought out nice shiny bore. The only thing that will not clean up like new is the stock, too many dents and dings.

I wonder what was scratched out? Social Security number, perhaps?

It looks like someone crudely scratched their name on it.
