I am always looking for new receivers for my kitchen top rifle builds. These followed me home from Camp Perry this year.

Very different from what we are used to. Most notable is the absence of a rear sight pocket.

With the XM21, the rail is machined to fit recesses in the forged receiver. For a scoped M14, that would probably be a considerable performance improvement over other optics mounting devices. It is enough for me at any rate. Along with the low mounting of a scope without the problem, that many have, of the rear of the scope contacting the rear sight which does not exist on these.

Is there any chance James River will keep welding up the USGI heels to their receivers? I bought a stub Winchester just in case.

This is America, there is always a chance. I spoke with Mark Hartman at Camp Perry this year and understand that it is a very difficult process to start with and then the negative responses from folks that can detect the weld makes it not worth the bother. I can understand that, folks that drop an AR together have become instant M14 critics. A sign of the times.
All I can suggest is to give James River a call once they have completed their move to North Carolina and see what info you can obtain from the horses mouth.
Love the flag.

Yes, I saw all that blather on the M14 forum about the weld. All but one I saw that actually owned them, liked them.

The legislature is out of session till January, perhaps the flag flap will be yesterday's news by then. We voted to keep it by almost 2/3'rds 14 years ago, and I find it amazing that 2/3'rds of the people can agree on anything. Last polls have said it's still over 60% and the conservative Christian speaker of the house that said it should be changed probably torpedoed his career in politics.

Rgr on the flag. We are died in the wool Yankees and now have the traditional 3x5 Confederate flag flying next to our Gadsden as a sign of support for individual rights for everyone. This was at the request of my wife of almost 50 years by the way.

"]Well, all the pieces stayed together and the rifle shot nicely. This is Bula Defense XM21 receiver ser# 4. #3 will go together this weekend. My younger son that served in the USMC until 1991 has been wanting to see how the old man puts these animals together. He will be down from Maine for a visit and get his chance to throw a finger in the operation. http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x413/nf1e/IMG_0167_zpsh7kcmjdb.jpg (http://s1180.photobucket.com/user/nf1e/media/IMG_0167_zpsh7kcmjdb.jpg.html) http://i1180.photobucket.com/albums/x413/nf1e/IMG_0168_zpsl3mnikgl.jpg (http://s1180.photobucket.com/user/nf1e/media/IMG_0168_zpsl3mnikgl.jpg.html) Semper Fi Art[/URL]

Had a chance to do a little shooting this morning. XM21 #4 with the 4 power VX-R , not exactly a precision rifle scope, 10 rnds on an SR-1 at 100 yds. I know the groups suck, but it is the best I can do at the moment with the black reticle on a black target. DAG ammo. This rifle is used for steel anyway. No troubles banging the reactive circle on poor old Vlad.
