View Full Version : Does barrel date indicate assymbly date
on original rifles? I know that production time of barrels and receivers varied plus 1st in last out variables but does the barrel date basicly indicate assymbly of the barrel to the receiver?
Thanks
No. A barrel could have been made months before or after the receiver. Could have been put on years later too.
An original rifle with a dated barrel could help narrow it down but that is conditioned upon it being original.
During early production, barrel dates were up to three months ahead of receivers. So say a barrel date of 1-43 on an Inland could be on a receiver that was assembled in March or April 1943. By the time of just Inland and Winchester making carbines in late 1944, the barrel date on an Inland was very close to production date if not during the same month.
