They took a band saw or hack saw and split the ring in halves through the claw on the bottom.

My 2c guess.

not Military for sure.. i know of the rifle you have pictured...alot of non military ad ons

I purchased a M84 scope like that at one time and couldn't figure it out either? Destroyed the rings while removing them.

Disassemble the scope and put the tube in the rings, then reassemble the scope. Pretty easy, the Germans did this also during WWII.

John, the commercially available vintage Beuhler's, as well as the new Warne's are set up as you describe.
A guy MIGHT be able to find a set of Beuhler's in 3/4 or 7/8" diameter, but IIRC, the Warne's only come as 1", 26mm or 30mm.
In any event, the Beuhlers, especially, can be a BUGGER to assemble with nerve-damaged diabetic hands and sight!!!

FWIW the Tech Manual shows the tube for the M84, including the housing for the W&E turrets under a single part number (7667424). While it's certainly possible the M84 tube is assembled from three subassemblies which are threaded or otherwise secured to the W&E housing I have never seen one disassembled. The manual does give any clue that this may be the case.

I someone has disassembled one it would be very interesting to hear how they dit it and to view pictures if available.:1948:

I'd like to see that M84 disassembly too. I didn't know the tube, turret and eyepiece could be disassembled. Of course I've never needed to disassemble further.

Most likely the band was cut as John said. I have also seen rings that had been spread and then pressed back together, but they usually show some deformation or finish irregularity. I don't see any deformation in the rings or finish in your picture though.
