I have a Lyman Alaskan mounted on my Gibbs A4 repro sniper. It has the verticle split rings. The front ring has two screws that cause ring to clamp onto the scope tube and hold scope in place. One is buggered and won't come out.

It looks like I will need replacement screws and an entire replacement front verticle ring .

I think these are sold in sets so will I have to buy (hunt ) for another set of verticle rings ? Or can front verticle rings be had separately ?

I would try to drill out the stuck screw before I buy a new ring. If you're careful and have the tools, the worst that can happen is that you damage the threads in the ring. If that happens, you can tap it for a larger screw or go ahead and buy "new" rings.

What Jim in Salt Lake said +1! "No need to replace an engine just for one fouled spark plug!"

Cabelas sells boxed gunsmith screw sets, and ACE Hardware sells gunscrews, also. CC

I've had good luck at an industrial hardware supplier here in Salt Lake. They sell retail and have been able to supply anything I've asked for except for 6X48 screws. I think gunmakers are the only folks using those so I get them at Brownells. Marshall's Industrial Hardware really helped me a few years ago by sizing and replacing all the cheap Chinese screws that Leatherwood used on their USMC Malcolm scopes. Glad BlitzKrieg got that busted screw out!

You are correct Grasshopper. Just look in any large industrial tool catalog. Manhattan supply has just about any tap or die one could think of except 6/48.

Gents,

Thank you for help and directions. I got a set of screws, managed to get the buggered communist screw safely out of the scope ring (Thank You Lady Luck!!!) and am now pressing on.

One tiny screw....I had a real car wreck going on !!!
