Hi Guys,
I think I came upon a real "jungle carbine". What do you think? What can you tell me from the pictures? I'm fairly new to Enfields and I would like to know more about this rifle. If you need more pictures let me know.
TIA
Dave

Is bolt handle hollow?

Rear sight should only go to 8 (800yards). There appears to be a Canadian Long Branch (L surrounding B) mark on the side of the rear-sight slide. This makes me a little suspicious.

P246,
Yes the barrel has the lightening cuts.

Smokey,
Yes the bolt handle is hollow.

butlersrangers,
Yes the sight is marked to 800 yrds. The side of the sight marking I looked at with a magnifying glass and it looks to be just a B. The sight also has a larger B on the forward section on the ladder next to the adjustment knob, but it is graduated to only 800 yrds (see pic).
What does the receiver ring marking (see pic) mean?
Also, Can you tell me which manufacturer made this rifle?
Also, what does the PMP stand for on the receiver?

Dave the manufacturer name should be on left side of receiver. Fazakerly is what mine is marked. Love shooting it. No more recoil than any other .303. The rubber butt is probably hard as a brick. If it is and you want a new one go to Liberty Tree Collectors. They have them. I shoot Privi Partizan in mine

odd that "JUNGLE CARBINES" also wound up in Norway with the Brit paratroops.

Jungle carbine was a term invented by the surplus dealers.

Smokey,
The only thing I see on the left side of the receiver is No.5 Mk.1 Is it under the wood??

The manufacturers code is M47C which is BSA/Shirley facility.
FMP (if you look close you can see the serif on the poorly struck F) is Federation of Malaysia Police. Malaya surplused off a lot of No5's about 10 years ago.

The manufacturer name should be on left side of receiver under the bolt handle. No Long Branch No. 5's.
Seems to me early No. 5's were issued to the Paras.

As JB stated, M47C = BSA, Shirley

While it looks vaguely familiar to me, I have no recollection of its meaning or source. A quick check of reference material turned up a dead end.
I have a wild-assed guess but stating it might only lead down the wrong path, thus forcing me to stand corrected later.

Thanks for taking the time to look JB.
