When was the first use of pins in the stocks?....SA rifle.....

The second stock screw (reinforcing crossbolt) was approved April, 1917.

Pins, bolts, what are you referring to? When you say pins, I'm thinking late Rem'03/early-mid Rem and Smith Corona A3's. John's talking about bolts, or stock screws. Are the "pins" really just a straight pin, or are they threaded like a repair pin, making them a screw, too??

The Remington and Smith-Corona brass stock "pins" were indeed threaded.

(FWIW, the "pin" shown here, bored out of a Remington 03-A3 stock, isn't brass but steel - perhaps with a bit of cadmium plating making it look yellowish.)

To answer your question. I think pins where first used in Nov. of 1942.
