I'm still trying to find my way around Trapdoors, Were they rebuilt by the military and parts mixed like 1903 Springfield's? What would be the best book for detailing a Trapdoor. Thank you

Yes, it appears to be, though I'd have to check the serial number range.
Yes, all sorts of upgrading, repairing, etc. was done, over the 35+ years the arms were in service, plus, Bubba has churned out countless mongrels as well.
For the 1873 and subsequent models, I'd recommend "The .45-70 Springfield" by Joe Poyer, as a good and reasonably priced (about $20) introduction.
For the earlier models, I'd recommend my book "The .58 & .50 Caliber Rifles and Carbines of Springfield Armory 1865-1872"
Both volumes are available from North Cape Publications, and elsewhere - Amazon, etc.
If you want an autographed copy of mine, send $25 to POB 1367 Colusa CA 95932.
Hope that helps. Coffee table books in the hundreds of dollars are also available if you get hooked.
Thanks Dick, This was at a local shop that has been selling a local guys collection and there have been a few Trapdoors along with some other pretty neat stuff. I don't know if there'll be more or not but I'll be watching.
