Sling swivels and front sight look like those on the M95 Steyr carbines.
Austria/Hungary????
Actually the over all look is of a Czech VZ-24, but they are not, as can be seen from side rail stamp..

What caliber is that Lithuanian Mauser, Dave?
7.9 or 8m/m. 'That' Lithuanian Mauser is two rifles. There were 3 or 4 different crests put on these, all feachered the "Columns" thingy. Est. 100,000 made total. One recently sold on an internet auction (listed as all matched) for 4625.00 bucks. I picked the one with sling in small town So. Ill. gun shop for 450 bucks! Love those small gun shops!

I've got an FN Mauser in 8mm that has no crest. I've never been able to positively identify it, but have been told that it could be either a Greek or Lithuanian model that was scrubbed.

The Greek model and the Lith. have two different stocks and swivel placement. Sights on Lith. start at 100 meters, Greek at 200 meters. Greek half hand guard, Lith. full.
Post pictures and/or describe other markings, they may tell the story. Serial number letter prefix? Sounds like a post war Re-built Romanian or a SCW rifle.
I've posted these pictures on various forums, but never gotten a definitive answer. It was sold as a 1930 Venezuelan Mauser, but is the wrong caliber (8x57) and has no markings identifiable with Venezuela. Serial number is Z6099 and the rifle seems to be all matching. After I got the cosmo cleaned off, it appears that the rifle is pristine, except for a few dents in the stock

are you a member of the Gun Boards Forums? Those guys would be able to ID that I'm sure.
Do you own German made Mauser? If so try putting the German bolt in this rifle. I think it is a rebuilt FN model 24 (intermediate action length). German bolt will not close. The triangle mark on stock grip looks Yugoslav but rifle hand guard does not. Defiantly not Lithuanian. Could be a Greek but never seen or heard of those being scrubbed and rebuilt, as this one is.

I should have mentioned it before, but this is definitly a full length action.
I ran it by the guys over on GB a few years ago and got a number of different theories...nothing solid.

Guess you will never know for sure.
Guess you will never know for sure.
Perhaps not. I'll console myself by shooting it--it is a great shooting rifle.
