Saw a post on one of the rifle sites I frequent, and a guy was selling what he called a Pre Star ga. NM 1903, from 1915 I think he stated that the "stars" appeared in the 1920s. Can anyone verify that this occurred? Also if true, how would one ascertain NM status of a rifle (besides SRS)? Thankyou in advance.......

I believe the "asterisk" on the muzzle crown appeared about 1922; Not sure about the star gauge registration (which appears under the handguard).
As far as a 1915 NM, I have one of those. Polished bolt, bright metal raceway and follower "rib".

Do the 1915 NM's have a checkered buttplate?

Mine does. I believe they were used between 1910 and 1917, NM rifles included.

Seasons' Greetings!
Pre-WWI NM rifles are quite scarce. They were never offered for sale. Only a few managed to get out. I would be grateful if you would direct me to the site where the rifle is being offered. I would like to evaluate and gather data from it.
Thanks! And Happy Holidays!
