I purchased a rod-bayonet trap door at auction four years ago, s/n 538017.
It is un-remarkable in all ways except for it's excellent condition.
I have fired it nearly eighty times since acquiring it and just realized yesterday that it has a spring loaded firing pin, which I believe it should not.
Questions:
1. Is there any harm in leaving it as is? (making sure the pin is free at each loading.)
2. Can I just remove the spring and continue to use the old style pin?
3. If I replace the pin would I be looking for an aluminum-bronze pin for this 1892 manufactured rifle?
I think I know the answers to these questions but always enjoy hearing opinions and advice from members here.
It is a mystery to me how or why an old-style pin ended up in an otherwise un-molested and little used rifle.
Chris.
