The only tool I have ever needed for my M4 was to remove front hand guard. I already had pin punches for the round headed pins.

find a USGI barrel wrench,
and if you change the collapsible stocks, a spanner or wrench to tighten them,
planning on changing a barrel, in addition to the wrench, get a set of vice blocks and you are set,
just a few punches, hammer, and screwdriver needed otherwise
and of course this manual,

I was not sure what you planned to do with the wrench you asked about. Like the other gentlemen said, if you want too tighten the castle nut on a collapsable(sp) butt stock, then you need the three point wrench or a spanner. I you want to change barrels then you need a standard wrench to remove the barrel nut. Next, if you decide to use an aftermarket
forearm or quad rail then most likely you need to purchase the wrench that fits the barrel nut that comes with the quad rail. I currently have five different types, but one fits an
AR10 quad rail. When or if you purchase a different forearm, please make sure you ask the manufacturer if a different wrench is required.

I forgot...the other gentleman suggested vise blocks, make sure the blocks include a plug that replaces the bolt carrier, to keep from making the casting oval.
