3387033871338673386833869For sale is an example of what I feel is the biggest "sleeper" in US martial handguns, the Colt Commando. Much as S&W was commissioned to produce a military finish version of their M&P (the Victory model, of which hundreds and hundreds of thousands were produced), Colt was directed to produce a military finish Official Police as the Commando. For whatever reason (likely the pressing need for M1911A1 pistols), Colt only produced 50,000 pieces. Contrast that with one of the "holy grails" of US pistol collectors, the US&S M1911A1, which when all was aid and done tallied 55,000 pieces...and sells for over $5k in nice original condition.

Many Commandos were used stateside as weapons for plant guards, National Guard troops, etc., but reportedly an unknown number were purchased by the US Navy as air personnel sidearms; this followed the death of a sailor subsequent to dropping his pre- hammer block Victory on the deck. After S&W redesigned the Victories to incorporate the hammer block, the Navy resumed purchase of this weapon. No Commandos have been reported with USN or any other unit designations.

Anyway, enough of the story. The revolver I'm offering for sale is in the 17,3xx s/n range, which places it just into the second third produced. The only significant wear is on the muzzle and front sight, and very slight wear on the high edges. This is congruent with normal holster wear. No rust or pitting is present. The action indexes properly, and the correct Coltwood stocks show none of the shrinkage often experienced. Mirror bore. The only imperfection is a VERY slight "ding" on the side of the muzzle (see photo).
The military acceptance mark is in the form of a small ordnance "bomb" located at the left top rear of the frame.

All in all, an outstanding example of a significant and rare US military sidearm.
I'm asking $835 plus shipping, and will require a copy of your C&R or FFL. Personal check or money order accepted.
