You'll want to get a bolt disassembly tool.

ETA: Numrich lists one for $29.95 http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Search.htm?s=m1%20carbine%20bolt
If you try to take your bolt apart without a bolt tool, you will quickly realize what a huge mistake that was. Get a bolt tool and you can change the extractor in maybe 10 minutes for a new guy using the tool.
It took you 10 minutes Tuna? You must have 10 thumbs! *LOL*
Well as I said Jim a new guy with a bolt tool for the first time. For me like you less then 30 seconds start to finish blind folded and one hand tied behind your back I bet. Ok so I will let you use two hands. Just so you don't get cranky in your old age like me.
I managed to do it without the bolt tool, once. Then I bought the bolt tool.

I used to remove it without a tool for many years. It can be done with a thin knife blade. The tool is much easier and less likely to loose the small plunger.
There are probably a few of those hiding in the carpet. :icon_lol:
Tuna? Old age? I'm 66 soon to be 67. And you??
Older then you and already at the Grumpy Old Man stage of my life. Funny how my wife and children made me this way.
My wife is putting me there too. Particularly when she asks "Why do you need another/more of those/that?" How many times do you have to explain???!!!
Forever and a day Jim, forever and a day.
