I'm considering an Armalite AR-10 with "Key-Mod" handguards. Can anyone tell me how these things work and what they're good for? I believe they're made by Aero but the Aero website didn't help. Armalite AR-10 comments welcome too. Models 16 inch or 18 inch Tactical Rifle. Thanks.

keymod and mlok are just different ways of hanging junk off the rifle, instead of having permanent rails all over it.

These articles cover the two latest accessory mounting systems.

The Armalite AR10s are available that use one of two types of magazine. The latest style (AR10A) uses the SR25/DPMS/PMAG magazines. The AR10B was developed during the AWB, when new manufacture twenty round were not allowed, so Armalite used modified surplus M14 magazines in the AR10B. Magazines for the AR10A are more readily available are less expensive.

I just ordered a PWS MK109 ( 300Blackout with 9.75 inch bbl ) with Keymod . Makes a lighter , smaller ( thinner) foreend . I found most of the all rail ones too oversize for me . They make rail sections to go into the key holes to mount any current acc. on by the std. set up , but more and more acc.s will be made to fit on directly as time goes by .
