Just came across a booklet I had misplaced on Canadian and British brass stock disc markings on SMLE's
If anyone needs the information I would be happy to look it up
Even back in the day when these rifles were sold by the thousands, and I owned several, I do not remember ever seeing any marking on these. Were they for unit markings or several things?
This stock disc is from a Lee Enfield 1904 Mark 1*** serial number G 8393463534636

Here's another dated 1944 showing an RAF unit:

Sorry about the blurred photo. It was taken in haste years ago to prove a point that not all discs were WW1.
The disc fell out of vogue during WW1 though and many were removed. Others were blank. Supposedly so the enemy couldn't be given easy access to who was opposing them. That's the story, but I haven't heard anything about insignias being removed from uniforms etc.
This Lee Enfield 1907 ConD 11* still has the '07 dated barrel and still chambered for the Mark VI cartridge, the

If memory serves (it doesn't serve well anymore) those discs all were Arabic marked.
