I have no idea what the Cole rifling was.

Cole Rifling was a form of 'oval bore' or elliptical rifling first pioneered by British gun-maker Charles Lancaster, in black-powder arms.

Dr. W.F. Cole of Waco, Texas, applied this earlier principle to a smaller bore (.30 caliber), high velocity rifle, firing metal jacketed bullets. The Krags with Cole 'test' barrels used a rifling twist of one turn in 10 inches.

The rifles cited by 'm1903rifle' were standard U.S. Krag Service rifles, that were tested against four Cole test rifles.

Out to distances of 500 yards, the Cole barrels showed a minor improvement in accuracy, but, it was not regarded as very significant.

There were other Cole test barrels that were made with a 1 turn in 8 inches twist. In 1902, some U.S. competitors used Krags with Cole barrels at an International Match held in Ottawa, Canada. The idea was dropped soon after.

(FWIW - My CZ-82 military pistol appears to have a form of Lancaster 'oval bore' rifling).
