CMP rifle bought in the late 90's. Serial 3394006. Barrel stamped 2 dot SA 9-43 (OR 9-48, faint)
Stock: SA NFR (Wheel) overstamped with DOD Acceptance stamp. Rebuilt in 60's (leg has electric pencil).

I am confused by the stock stampings. No wheel at bottom of grip (may have been buffed out). P has serifs.

No rebuild stamps on wood.

Also, barrel marks are when action is open and show under the handguard. I have read a bit saying the barrel
may have been refitted for 2 out of 3 times.

Any light on these issues?

Oh yes, rifle has later sights.

It can happen. I have a late HRA (5.7) that has a DAS stamp and a serrifed P on the grip. This is post war rebuild birch wood. Not sure what refitted barrel means.

I believe the 2 before the SA 9-43 means the barrel has been reworked twice and somewhere I read it can go to 3 but not beyond before it is removed from a combat rifle and replaced.
I could be wrong but know someone will chime in with more info. Can't help on the cartouches.

Cartouche not uncommon to be stamped over and not sanded off. Rick B
