View Full Version : Strange lower band?

Some time ago I got a strange lower band with a pile of '03A3 parts. It is stamped and parkerized and appears to have some age.

The odd feature is that the tabs that the swivel screw goes through are welded on. It is threaded the same as an '03 lower band I had laying around.

The band is marked with what looks like an A in a circle on the top.

Is this a National Ordnance or Santa Fe part or perhaps for some other rifle entirely?

Thanks.

It looks like an 'A' inside a 'C'.

The band looks like something made overseas, perhaps in China. In recent years, M1903 rifles left in the hands of Chinese were brought back into the U.S. The band, perhaps, may have come from one of those. The Chinese had to make their own spare parts, since none were forthcoming from the U.S.

Here are a couple more pictures. From L-R is a milled No4 Enfield band, a stamped No 4 Enfield band, the mystery band and a Remington A3 band. 3853038531

ChuckinDenver speculated this might be a No4 Enfield band and I think he may be right. I compared the mystery band to the stamped No4 band before creating the OP but the curvature looked wrong. Compared to the milled band it is much more favorable.

The mark on the mystery band appears to be a Canadian Arsenals ltd mark. I'm pretty sure at this point I have a No4 Enfield band.
