What info is potentially available in the SRS database?

The SRS is basically a quick reference of a particular serial, at a certain date and location, that is located on a document at a Archive location. Basically it was a cheat sheet, to all the serials they had located on a document at a Archives location somewhere.

What it was meant to do was, you could see if your serial was a hit. If it was, you could pay them to go back to the archives that they found that serial, and make you a copy of the original document.

But this was back in the day. They no longer pull the original documents, and the SRS now is just a collection of serials and a quick note of what it was.

Like for instance here is one. This is the entry from the SRS. Doesn't really tell you much, other than the rifle was a Marine Corps rifle on 4/02/1929

But then you pull the original document that is referencing and you find out a lot more

Cplnorton. Thanks for the info., That was a great example document you provided. I would have been thrilled to receive that document on any rifle I own. Shame there is no similar database for commercially made Milsurps.
