Just saw that Colt is doing a retro 1967 M16A1 except in semi. Colt is MSRP @ about $2500 and limiting the run to 2500 weapons. Looks like they have shot themselves in the foot again with cost and limited run.
Sam
Limited to 2500 makes them instant collectables in this day. I can't afford it, but $2,500.00 to a whole lot of gun people is nothing.
$2500.00 x 2500 equals $6,250,000.00 if the calculator is correct.
I don't see the " they shot themselves in the foot" part.

If the price is lowered to say $1,000 and unlimited manufacture it wouldn't take long to surpass the mark you mentioned.
Sam
I agree and would like to see that. At $1000 dollars or so, I could do that.

Over the last 40 years, Colt has made many dumb mistakes this just adds to the list. Colt lost the M4 contract, continues to lose market share.
Sam
If that's the case why don't they do a SP1? I still like the idea of a super light carry around rifle without all the bells and whistles of todays rifles.

I've made several A1 for myself for the tune of 450 bucks-that was when there were a lot of A1 stocks floating around
started with a pencil S/S barrel from Oly--none of my AR's float a A2 stock

My bet is that many, if not most, of the parts for these rifles will be sourced from other manufacturers.

From what i've read, Colt only made 10 of the 110 or so parts in the AR15 / M16, the balance procured from sub-contractors.

Love my 1975 SP-1 with Leupold 3-9x on leatherwood mount on the carry handle. Shoots just as well as my 90's HBAR. Very retro. Except for the go fast switch, forward assist, and rack number 164 on its butt; it's a twin for the XM-16A1E2 I shot in the 3rd Mar Div Intramurals that year.
